"Every afternoon I would come home from school and watch the "Batman" TV series in the afternoons. "Finally, a serious show about superheros" I remember thinking, and they had the really cool gadgets and the BATMOBILE! Then I watched the show again in college, and laughed my head off! It is a rare show that can play on two levels. It was also in college that I saw an old film "Harold and Maude" and it had a custom Jaguar Hearse in the movie. That got me started wondering "Where are all those great cars from the old tv shows and movies? They have to be some where!" So began my quest, starting with the batmobile. in 1986 I produced an episode of "The Wil Shriner Show" that was a reunion of the cast, and of course I made the show rent a batmobile for me, I mean, the show!
Once I sat behind the wheel, I knew I had to have one. So from 1986 to 2003 I collected photos, did research (before the internet!) located the cars, found and met the "players," built parts out of all sorts of things (there is no "Batmobile restoration catalog") and contracted help from many talented craftsmen to finally get the car done. Now I search out other starcar owners at starcarcentral.com with the help of the internet to all the 4 corners of the earth!" - Nate T.
